Memorial Gumbo village, Lithuania
The memorial to victims of nazi occupation during the WWII in Gumbo village, Lithuania, is situated on the site where the former village stood before its complete annihilation.
It was designed and built in 1984 by my father, architect Stanislovas Bagdanavicius, as a humble contribution to our collective memory and a tribute to the ‘brutalism’ architecture in its very simple form. It was also my first experience in assisting the design process from early conception through the site works and the final completion.
The memorial is listed under the Cultural Heritage by Republic of Lithuania.
